Installation and Care of a New Lawn from Sod

1.      Prepare underlying soil. Rake and remove rocks, debris, etc.  Slope soil away from the foundations.

2.      Spread topsoil to depth of 4 - 6 inches preferably.

3.      Apply lime at a rate of 100 lbs per 1000 sq. ft. of lawn and rake into soil.

4.      Apply  fertilizer at a rate of 30 - 40 lbs per 1000 sq. ft. of lawn and rake in.

5.      Lightly roil soil to provide a smooth surface for turf installation.  Water the prepared area to provide a moist base for turf.

6.     Install your lawn immediately upon delivery.  Water immediately following installation.  Stagger the joints in each row in a brick like fashion.  On slopes, place sod across the slope and use pegs to hold sod in place.

7.     Give your new lawn 1 inch of water shortly after installation.  Water daily for the first two weeks, then less frequently and deeper watering should begin.

8.     Approximately  1 month after installation apply fertilizer at the rate of 30 lbs per 1000 sq ft.  Fertilizer recommended is 12-6-3.

FALL TREATMENT:

1.     Apply 25 kg limestone per 1000 sq ft.

2.     Apply 10 kg fertilizer per 1000 sq ft, suggested 12-8-12 or equivalent.

SPRING TREATMENT:

1.    Apply 10 kg of high nitrogen fertilizer per 1000 sq ft of lawn.  Suggested fertilizer in 12-6-3 or equivalent at prescribed rates.

SUMMER TREATMENT:

1.    Summer application, while maybe not essential, is desirable.  It is suggested to apply in late June.   Apply 10 kg of high nitrogen fertilizer per 1000 sq ft such as 12-6-3 or equivalent at prescribed rates.
